Synopsis:

He's her first. He's her everything. He's her . . . stepbrother.

Kat has always been a good girl. She studies hard and never stays out too late. But when sitting in a pub on her birthday, she realizes she's a nineteen-year-old virgin who's never really lived. And she wants tonight to be the night that changes.
Then she sees him walk in. He's tall, dark, handsome, and straight out of her deepest fantasies. His voice makes her knees feel weak, and when he smiles, she imagines him doing wicked things to her in bed. From the look in his eyes, she knows he's imagining it too. So when he asks if he can walk her home, she hears herself whisper yes . . .

Laurren thoughts on Stepbrother Romances-

O Brother Where Art Thou- The Appeal of Stepbrother Romances- Lauren Smith

Stepbrother. The word can conjure up any number of things good or bad. Lately there’s been interesting and somewhat polarizing trend of new adult or contemporary set romances where the characters are step-siblings. Dozens of readers have come out to buy and read these addictive books and yet other readers will firmly stand against them. So what makes a stepbrother book so good? Or possibly bad?
In a majority of the books, the heroine meets a hot slightly older guy either in high school or college who later becomes her stepbrother. Usually she has a crush on the guy BEFORE their parents get hitched. I think the biggest opposition to the stepbrother concept is that readers who oppose it assume, wrongly, that the hero and the stepbrother heroine have known each other from birth. Sure…that would be a little creepy. But that’s not how most of the stepbrother romances out there are written. The typically story is a girl who has a crush on the bad boy in school comes home to find out their parents started dating. The appeal for these stories for most readers is the “forbidden” and yet right within reach feeling of the two characters. They are forced to spend time together since they’re parents are getting married, yet they can’t be seen kissing or having sex because they’re parents would flip. It’s understandable, but it’s not really creepy because they weren’t raised together and they’re not connected by any sort of blood relation.
I set out to write what I call the “Lauren version” of a stepbrother book. I typically like to take a challenge of a certain trope or concept out there and see if I can’t put a new spin on it that would entice readers who would normally balk at reading that sort of book, to trying my version’s book. So the first thing I did when writing the Her British Stepbrother story is that I made my two characters born and raised on separate continents. There’s no growing up together, and they don’t meet while the heroine is underage. In fact, up until the very last page of the book, there’s not a hint or mention of a stepsibling connection. How does that work? It’s because both Kat the heroine and Tristan the hero are at college, her for undergraduate studies and he for his masters degree and neither of them have any idea their parents are dating in London and they certainly don’t know that their parents have even met. So for anti-step-sibling readers this may in fact be a story they’ll enjoy. Forbidden, Seduction and Climax is first and foremost the story of an American girl who falls for a future earl, a man who she fears she can’t ever fit into his style of life and won’t be accepted. It’s fairy tale more with a few different forbidden aspects that give the reader the edge and sexiness to keep turning the pages. So if you love a good romance with a hint of naughtiness and a delicious British bad boy, buckle up because Forbidden is just the book for you!
